The Catholic College Promise provides young women with a weighted GPA of 3.0 or higher attending participating Catholic high schools of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles with a direct pathway to Mount Saint Mary's University, Los Angeles. Qualified students receive direct admission, priority financial aid consideration and personalized admission support. Direct admission offers an even more streamlined experience than guaranteed admission, as eligible students receive an admission offer without needing to apply.

What Is the Catholic College Promise?

The Catholic College Promise is an admission partnership between Mount Saint Mary's University, Los Angeles and the Department of Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The program expands access to Catholic higher education by connecting eligible students with admission opportunities, financial aid resources and leadership experiences at Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­.

What benefits do Catholic College Promise students receive? 

Eligible students receive:

  • Direct admission to Mount Saint Mary's University (excluding Nursing and Music majors) without needing to submit an application.
  • Priority admission notification
  • Priority financial aid notification
  • Comprehensive merit- and need-based financial aid
  • Personalized admission support
  • Pre-admission advising
  • Campus visits and special admission events
  • Consideration to be named an Athenian Fellow
  • A seamless transition from Catholic high school to Catholic university 

Who qualifies for the Catholic College Promise?

Students may qualify for the Catholic College Promise if they:

  • Are a female student from a participating Archdiocese of Los Angeles Catholic high school
  • Earn a weighted cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Demonstrate involvement in service, leadership or faith-based activities
  • Meet Mount Saint Mary's University admission requirements

The Catholic College Promise pilot currently includes students from the following Archdiocese of Los Angeles Catholic high schools:

  • Bishop Alemany High School
  • Bishop Amat Memorial High School
  • Bishop Montgomery High School
  • Immaculate Heart High School
  • Junípero Serra High School
  • Louisville High School
  • Pomona Catholic High School
  • Sacred Heart High School
  • Santa Clara High School
  • St. Anthony High School
  • St. Genevieve High School
  • St. Pius X–St. Matthias Academy 

 Additional Catholic high schools may be added as the program expands. 

Athenian Fellows program

The Athenian Fellows program at Mount Saint Mary's University, Los Angeles is a selective leadership opportunity for Catholic College Promise students who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, service and commitment to their communities. 

After students offered direct admission confirm their interest in attending Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­, participating high schools may nominate eligible students for consideration. A select group of nominees will be invited to join the Athenian Fellows program.

Athenian Fellows receive additional opportunities for: 

  • Leadership development
  • Campus Ministry engagement
  • Career and Professional Development programming
  • Community service experiences
  • Early college opportunities, including dual and concurrent enrollment when available

How does financial aid work for Catholic College Promise students?

Students admitted through the Catholic College Promise receive a comprehensive financial aid review that includes merit scholarships and need-based financial aid.

Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­ admission and financial aid teams work with each family to help students understand their financial aid options and make college more affordable.

How can high school counselors support students in the Catholic College Promise? 

If your school participates in the Catholic College Promise pilot program, your assigned Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­ admission representative is available to support you, your students and their families throughout the admission process. They can help answer questions about eligibility, admission requirements, financial aid and next steps. 

Your admission representative can also visit your campus to:

  • Meet with prospective students and families
  • Present admission and financial aid information
  • Answer questions about the Catholic College Promise
  • Coordinate campus tours and group visits to Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­

Admission representatives are available to assist counselors from all high schools with the admission process and student recruitment. Eligible students will receive information through their participating high school and Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­ regarding their direct admission offer and next steps.

No. Students who receive a direct admission offer are not required to attend Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­. The program provides students with an additional pathway and opportunity to continue their Catholic education.

Currently, the Athenian Fellows opportunity is available to eligible students participating in the Catholic College Promise pilot program. Additional opportunities may be added as the program expands.

Direct admission through the Catholic College Promise does not include Nursing and Music majors. Students interested in these programs must complete the appropriate admission process.
